SOLVAY

Solvay, a world leader in specialty polymers

Solvay is the global leader in specialty polymers, offering the widest portfolio of high-performance thermoplastics and fluorinated polymers, elastomers, and liquids. Our materials are used in many markets such as automotive, aerospace, electrical and electronics, consumer, construction, industrial, and healthcare.

Specialty polymers are characterized by their ability to retain and maintain superior mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties when subjected to harsh environments, such as high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive chemicals.

Our specialty polymers offer varying combinations of key performance properties such as biocompatibility, high heat, high strength, chemical resistance, fatigue and wear resistance, flame retardant properties, corrosion protection, electrical inertness, and dimensional stability. Learn more at www.solvay.com.

Featured Markets

Transportation
Solvay’s specialty polymers, including Amodel® PPA and Ryton® PPS, offer high-performance solutions for improving powertrain efficiency, transmission down-speeding, lightweighting, and electrification. Our high-performance materials are ahead of the game for demanding applications where high heat, chemical resistance and excellent dimensional stability are essential. Learn more.

Consumer
A reliable materials supplier to the food and beverage industry for more than 20 years, Solvay’s Ixef® PARA and Omnix® HPPA are strong, lightweight alternatives to metals with better mechanical properties, higher heat resistance, inherent flame retardancy and a high-quality surface finish for consumer applications where aesthetics are important. Our materials are FDA-compliant and meet stringent European food contact regulations. Learn more.

Featured materials

Amodel® PPA

High-performance BioPolymers for flexible packaging and films. For over 30 years, Amodel® polyphthalamide (PPA) has been used in a wide range of demanding automotive, electronics, consumer, and industrial applications. This family of high-temperature polyamides retain their high strength and stiffness up to 280°C (536°F), even after thousands of hours at elevated temperatures and in high humidity and chemically aggressive environments. With a high melting point over 300°C (572°F), Amodel® PPA also enables electronic processes and assembly, including surface mount technology (SMT), IR reflow soldering, and overmolding of metals. Learn More.

Ixef® PARA

Ixef® polyarylamide (PARA) is a family of high-performance polyamides that are well-suited for food contact applications requiring overall strength and a high-quality surface finish. The tensile strength of PARA polymers is similar to many cast metals and alloys at room temperature and these plastics feature low moisture absorption to promote excellent dimensional stability. High flow grades of Ixef® PARA can be used to produce structural components that are very thin, extremely rigid and dimensionally stable, giving manufacturers more design flexibility. Learn more.

Omnix® HPPA

Omnix® HPPA is a family of high-performance polyamides that bridge the cost-performance gap between lower performing PA66 and higher performing polyphthalamide, such as Amodel® PPA.This material has higher heat resistance and dimensional stability than PA66 and is suitable for food contact applications such as appliance handle housings and other structural components. Learn more.

Ryton® PPS

Ryton® polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a semi-crystalline, high-heat polymer that offers exceptional dimensional stability for precision-molded components needing to withstand prolonged, high-temperature service. It is inherently flame retardant and offers chemical resistance comparable to PEEK and fluoropolymers. Ryton® PPS has been used commercially for over 40 years in automotive, electronics, aerospace, semiconductor, electronic, and oil and gas applications. Learn More.
