Nexeo Plastics Partners with Roper Mountain Science Center, Sponsors STEM 3D Printing Lab

THE WOODLANDS, Texas, March 2, 2020 – Nexeo Plastics has partnered with Roper Mountain Science Center (RMSC) in Greenville, S.C., providing 3D printing equipment to its science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program in support of their science education to students and community members.

Nexeo Plastics donated a new 3D printer and one year’s worth of 3D printing filament to RMSC’s STEM lab for their 3D printing curriculum, which includes classroom activities and 3D printing summer camps.

“We are excited to be partnering with Nexeo Plastics to enhance our 3D printing capabilities. Partners like Nexeo Plastics help us fulfill our mission to ignite the natural curiosity of all learners to explore and shape their world,” said Michael Weeks, director of Roper Mountain Science Center.

In addition, RMSC uses 3D printing internally to create parts, models, structures, props and tools used in their story-based lessons. Rounding out the partnership, Nexeo Plastics will provide on-going reclamation services by picking up RMSC’s disposed filaments and resins waste, helping the recycling and sustainability efforts of the organization.

“We are thrilled to partner with such an outstanding organization, dedicated to innovation, science and the education of Greenville County students,” said Shawn Williams, president and chief executive officer of Nexeo Plastics.

Eric Roberts, Nexeo Plastics product line manager and David Burdock, Nexeo Plastics account manager, were on hand to deliver the equipment and materials to RMSC staff members, Erin Eudaly, STEM specialist, Joe Blizzard, STEM teacher and Valerie Mosher, STEM specialist.

“Our hope is that the students and participants of the RMSC STEM lab get a great introduction to 3D printing, how it works, and how it can provide a creative way to innovate and design, as well as learn about waste products and how they can be repurposed” said Roberts.

Offering a variety of public programs since 1985, RMSC, a special facility of Greenville county schools dedicated to innovative learning, provides different education tracks, centers and labs for students and the community to experience. From a planetarium to science halls, a telescopic observatory and much more, RMSC is dedicated to igniting the natural curiosity of all learners to explore and shape their world.
